Parks & Recreation
Given the name West Humber, this neighbourhood has great park areas surrounding the Humber River. The most notable would be the Clairville Conservation Area, containing significant natural and cultural heritage features, and has educational facilities and programs. The Area was originally used to construct a flood control dam and reservoir after the destruction caused by Hurricane Hazel. Since then, many community efforts have been made to plant more trees and shrubs in the area, resulting in now 7.5 hectares of forest. The park is a favourite with local dog owners, bird watchers and wildlife photographers. The landscape of the park is diverse with numerous creeks and ravines, flat plains, and rolling hills enriching the forested landscape. The park is home to a variety of wildlife with dozens of species of birds, fish and even some rare white deer.
