One of the most significant settlers was John Silverthorn,He purchased Lot G, west half and Lot H, totaling some 400 acres of rich soil on the north side of Dundas, east of Etobicoke Creek - the future Markland Wood community. Naturally, a small community began to grow, based on the location of the mill and its proximity to Dundas Street. In early days, the area was known as the district of Silverthorn. Later it became the Village of Summerville.
