The west-end Toronto neighbourhood of Dovercourt-Wallace Emerson Junction is not far from the centre of downtown Toronto and includes a number of smaller communities, such as Bloordale Village, Bloorcourt, Dovercourt, Wallace Emerson and the Junction Triangle.
Dovercourt-Wallace Emerson-Junction
It is situated just east of Dundas Street West along Bloor Street to Christie Street and jogging north of Dupont. It boasts walkable, tree-lined streets with local cafes and markets only a short distance away. Dovercourt-Wallace Emerson Junction got its start in the late 1800s as an industrial area close to the railways and factories. It was originally home to many immigrants and later became popular with Portuguese, Italians, Spanish, Asians and Ethiopians. The neighbourhood has a mixed income and multi-cultural combination found amongst its residents. There is an array of cafes, eateries and established restaurants, vintage shops, galleries and fruit markets. The local residents and businesses participate in an annual street festival called ‘Big on Bloor’ featuring art, music and international food.
Schools
Public schools service the community in French and English, and the local Catholic School is St. Sebastian.Transit
Since Bloor is a major artery of the city, traffic of all kinds - foot, bicycle and car - are used. Right across from Christie Pitts is the subway: Christie Station runs along the Bloor-Danforth line. The Christie bus moves between Christie Station and St. Clair West Station with bike racks available to commuters.
Parks & Recreation
Christie Pits Park is the hub of this community, constantly in use by schools, sports groups, daycares and lunchtime picnickers. Wallace-Emerson Park just south of Dupont also has a community centre attached to it, and Dovercourt Park has its Dovercourt Boys and Girls Club which has programs for kids from tots to teens.
