Erin Mills is a neighbourhood within the City of Mississauga. A important location is the neighbourhood is University of Toronto-Mississauga campus. The boundaries of this neighbourhood are Highway 407 to the west, the Credit River to the east, Britannia Road to the north, and Dundas Street to the south. Erin Mills is sometimes referred to as Central Erin Mills north of Highway 403 and simply Erin Mills south of the 403.
Erin Mills
Erin Mills Town Centre is a community hub and a top Mississauga destination. Sales and special events are constantly ongoing at this indoor shopping mall. There are over 185 shops and restaurants including anchor tenant Wal-Mart. Another shopping destination is South Common Centre.
Schools
There are a variety of schools located in the immediate area of Erin Mills, including University of Toronto-Mississauga.Transit
Highway 403 runs west-east though Erin Mills and connects commuters to the Greater Toronto Area. Erin Mills Parkway runs north-south providing to amenities in neighbouring communities. There are not many public transit options within Erin Mills itself, but the neighbourhood is close to the Erindale, Meadowvale and Steetsville Go Stations.
Parks & Recreation
There are three major large parks in the area; Woodhurst Heights Park, King's Masting Park, and Tom Chater Memorial Park all including great nature trails available to the public for hiking and picnics.History
In the 1950s E.P. Taylor, the wealthy Canadian entrepreneur deemed the area now knwon as Erin Mills as perfect for future housing development. Under the name of his subsidiary company Don Mills Development Corp, E.P. Taylor announced he was going to build a 'New Town" called Erin Mills, named after the village of Erindale which was located on the opposite side of the Credit River Valley. Erin Mills was built in four phases. Erin Mills South was built in the 1970s, followed by Erin Mills West in the mid 1980s, then came Erin Mills Central completed in 1989 and finally Churchill Meadows between 2000 and 2010.
