Erindale is a neighbourhood within the City of Mississauga. Erindale Village has lots of natural landmarks including the Credit River that winds its way through this neighbourhood. There are a variety of parks offering a myriad of recreational services from picnic areas to sports. The historic Erindale Village is located on a winding roadway off Dundas Street, east of the Credit River. The village has retained some of its original heritage structures including a church, community hall and a handful of early houses. The ruins of an old hydro dam can be explored on foot in Erindale Park off Dundas Street across from the village.
Erindale
Erindale is big on parkland but not so much on shopping. The closest malls are located just outside the neighbourhood in Cooksville and Erin Mills. Mississauga City Centre, Port Credit and the City of Toronto are all within reasonable driving distance for Erindale residents who are looking for restaurants and entertainment. The old village of Erindale consists of just a few streets. The lack of sidewalks and the ravine setting make this village feel like it is located in the rural countryside rather than a big city.
Schools
There are both elementary and secondary public schools within Erindale. Erindale is also close to University of Toronto-Mississauga campus located in the neighbouring community Erin Mills.Transit
Erindale has its own Go Station which makes commuting easy for residents. There is easy access to highway 403 which connects to the 400 series highways leading into and out of Mississauga and to all points of the GTA.
Parks & Recreation
Erindale Park is a neighbourhood park that runs along Credit River and is the largest park in Mississauga. The park is popular among fishing enthusiasts as this stretch of the Credit River supports runs of Rainbow and Brown Trout, Chinook, Coho and Atlantic Salmon. The park also includes picnic areas, trials and canoeing. it is protected by the greenbelt, keeping the area to untouched and a prime location to interact with nature such as bird watching or photography. The David J. Fulham Trail pathway within Erindale Park is popular with hikers, joggers, cyclists and cross-country skiers.History
In 1822 Thomas Racey purchased a large tract of land on the banks of the Credit River. . Racey had his land auctioned off is small sections in 1825 to settlers who would go on to establish a small village originally named Toronto. This village would undergo many name changes until 1890 when the name changed to Erindale. Industry thrived for a time with saw and grist mills operating on the Credit River. In 1919 a devastating fire left the village near ruin and industrial Erindale never recovered from the fire. Erindale was given new life when it amalgamated with the Township of Mississauga in 1968, later becoming part of the newly created City of Mississauga in 1974.
